Celebrate Your Chosen Family

This week, many will be traveling to see their relatives for the Thanksgiving holiday. Some will sit down at a table and share an elaborate meal and share stories.

Many others will not. Perhaps they don’t want to honor the holiday. Perhaps they have a tense or nonexistent relationship with relatives.

I like to think of this time of year as a time to be more intentional about practicing gratitude and to celebrate my chosen family. I love my relatives and immediate family, but I also have an amazing chosen family of people who are incredibly important parts of my life.

The people we choose to surround ourselves with have an impact on the course of our lives. They support us and carry us in the worst of times. And they celebrate with us in the very best of times. It’s important to honor those relationships and show gratitude to the people closest to us.

Do you express gratitude to those in your life who provide unconditional love and comfort? How do you show the important people in your life that you appreciate them? That you care for them? That you hold them dear?

Relationships require work. Especially the most important ones in our lives. A wonderful way to celebrate those important people in our lives is to show them proper gratitude. Let the ones you hold most dear know how much they mean to you.
